Dr. Joseph Bryant of Calvary Hill Community Church presented digital education programs for seniors and young professionals in collaboration with the SF Human Rights Commission and the Dream Keeper Initiative. A question was asked about certificates of completion after the courses were taken, and Dr. Bryant confirmed that some programs (ex. the Meta digital training) result in a certification, while others lead to direct improvements in job applications and other skills.
A motion was passed to support the digital education programming.
Veronica Shepard presented on a 22+ church coalition that provided food access programs during the pandemic. This program was aimed to address health disparities in the community by prioritizing nutrition and the goal was to recover the program, as healthy food access is a huge issue in the community.
A motion was passed to support the reactivation of the food access program.
Rev. Dr. Amos Brown, president of the adult chapter of the San Francisco NAACP provided updates on the Fillmore Safeway. He described the refusal of the grocery chain to accept community-based policing solutions and the eventual decline of crime at the supermarket regardless (due to collaboration between the NAACP and the SFPD police chief), criticizing the Safeway statement claiming that their closure was due to crime rates.
Virginia Marshall presented on the education committee, mentioning a meeting with the SFUSD Superintendent and future administration changes.
A motion was passed to support the replacement of resigning/retiring African American administrators with African American administrators.
The Youth Council presented on their involvement with San Francisco Juneteenth events, their upcoming mayoral forum and internal election, and their Safeway needs assessment.
SFPD Chief Scott gave an update on Terry Williams, an Alamo Square resident, requesting that anyone who has a video or photo of the fire or a person-of-interest should submit it to the SFPD to assist with their ongoing investigation.
